Is a benign encapsulated tumor of the thyroid gland. It shows evidence of follicular differentiation but lacks evidence of capsular and vascular invasion and lacks the nuclear features of papillary carcinoma.
1. Partial thyroidectomy specimen
2. Cut section shows spherical, grey-white tumor mass surrounded by normal thyroid tissue
Well encapsulated lesion composed of micro and macro follicles containing colloid.
Compression of the surrounding normal thyroid tissue.
Follicular adenoma
1.Write the gross features of the specimen.
ANS: Specimen shows a well circumscribed, capsulated lesion which is grey-brown and surrounded by normal thyroid tissue.
2.Write the microscopic features & diagnosis.
ANS: - Capsule surrounding the lesion.
Compression of adjacent normal thyroid tissue.
The architecture is different in the lesion compared to normal thyroid.
Diagnosis: Adenoma – Thyroid.
