These are germ cell tumors and are divided into three categories:
1. Mature / dermoid cyst (benign)
2. Immature (malignant)
3. Monodermal or specialized (Eg: Struma ovarii- composed entirely of mature thyroid tissue)
20 years old female presented with mass in right iliac fossa.
1. Specimen of cystic ovary with stretched out fallopian tube on the surface
2. Cut surface shows multiloculated cyst with teeth and tufts of hair on inner surface
Tumor composed of derivatives of all the three germ layers.
Matures cartilage, adipose tissue, stratified squamous epithelium with keratin and glands filled with mucin seen.
Teratoma ovary
1) Describe the gross features of the specimen.

2) Identify the microscopic features of the given slide.
Tumor is composed of derivatives of all the three germ layers.
Mature cartilage, adipose tissue, stratified squamous epithelium with keratin and glands filled with mucin are seen.
3) Diagnose the pathological condition correlating the history, gross and microscopic features.
Benign cystic teratoma.
4) Mention the special variant of the above tumor?
Stroma ovarii.
5) What is the long standing complication of the above condition?
1% of the above condition can become squamous cell carcinoma.
