It is a common benign congenital or acquired neoplasm of melanocytes. They are circular or oval and are usually small, though some can be larger. In 1% of cases these could be the precursors of malignant melanoma
Commonly known as mole. They are often small in size, circumscribed and uniform in appearance.
Tan to brown, uniformly pigmented
Present as macules or papules with well defined rounded borders
1. Nests of benign nevoid cells seen in the dermis and dermo-epidermal junction
2. Nevoid cells have round uniform nuclei with melanin pigment within the cytoplasm
3. Nevoid cells show no mitotic activity and eventually mature into spindle cells in fascicles
Intradermal nevus
1. Mention the different types of nevi
The morphologic types include Junctional nevi, Compound nevi and Intradermal nevi .
2. Mention the variant forms of intrademal nevus.
The variants include Congenital nevus, Blue nevus, Spitz nevus, Halo nevus and Dysplastic nevus
3. Mention the characteristics of benign nevus.
Gross: Tan to brown, uniformly pigmented, symmetrical and small -macules or papules with well defined rounded borders
Micro: Nuclei of nevus are round uniform, contain no mitotic activity - eventually mature into spindle cells in fascicles
4. Give examples of adnexal tumors.
Syringoma, Spiradenoma, Hidradenoma, Cylindroma, Pilomatricoma, Trichilemmoma and Trichiepithelioma
