Interpret the results of Liver function tests. 

A. What is the diagnosis? Write two points in favour of your diagnosis.

Diagnosis: Chronic liver disease

1. 45-year-old male with history of recurrent jaundice and distension of abdomen indicating liver injury

2. Liver function tests are within limits except reduced serum albumin and albumin:globulin ratio

B. Mention the causes for the above diagnosis

1. Alcoholism

2. Viruses (Hepatitis B, C and D)

3. Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis

   1. DM type II, Hypertension, Obesity, Hyperlipidaemia

4. Drugs

   1. Isoniazid, methotrexate, amiodarone, phenytoin, sodium valproate, nitrofurantoin

6. Genetic disorders 

   1. Hemochromatosis, Wilson’s disease, α1 antitrypsin deficiency
